Four arrested, multiple firearms seized
Cape Town:- Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) officers have made several major breakthroughs in Manenberg as part of their ongoing clampdown on illegal firearms and gang-related crime.
Between Thursday night and Friday evening, 30 – 31 October 2025, the unit arrested four suspects and recovered several unlicensed firearms, ammunition and extended magazines during targeted operations in and around Manenberg.
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the first arrest was made on Thursday night after officers on patrol received information about a firearm at a residence in Viva Street.
“Members found a 35-year-old male who pointed out where he had hidden a .38 Special revolver and four rounds of ammunition,” Twigg confirmed.
The suspect was immediately arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Later that same night, around 22:55, the team acted on further intelligence at a home in Ray Alexander Close, Tambo Village.
“A 44-year-old male pointed out two firearms – a Taurus 9mm and a Bulstorm 9mm – along with an extended magazine,” Twigg said.
The suspect was taken to Manenberg SAPS for processing.
On Friday evening, officers tracked down a wanted 21-year-old gang member hiding in Elbe Street, Manenberg. He was arrested with a black 9mm short Barretta and 21 rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Within an hour, at 20:15, police received a tip-off about another wanted suspect in Cyclone Street. The man was arrested, and during questioning he revealed that he had given his firearm to a woman for safekeeping.
AGU members followed up and arrested a 38-year-old woman at a home in Elsieskraal Street. She pointed out a 9mm Barreta Z88, an extended magazine and 70 rounds of ammunition hidden on the property.
Both the man and woman are believed to be affiliated with a local gang.
Twigg said all suspects were detained at Manenberg SAPS and will appear in court once charged.
“The Anti-Gang Unit remains committed to removing illegal firearms from our streets and ensuring that those involved in gang activity are brought to justice,” he added.
