And I Will Resign’
Ramaphosa Throws Down the Gauntlet to ANC Rivals.

Johannesburg:- In a dramatic and fiery showdown inside the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC), President Cyril Ramaphosa issued an extraordinary challenge to his internal opponents: “Give me a resignation date, and I will resign.”
The statement by was made on 17 November 2025 during an address to the (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to insiders who witnessed the tense political overview, Ramaphosa confronted factional detractors head-on, accusing them of plotting in secrecy and “discussing his exit in dark corners like cowards.” He insisted that if anyone wanted him out, they must table it openly and formally – not whisper it through political corridors.
Ramaphosa made it clear: if the NEC were to officially request his departure, he would step aside immediately.
The heated exchange comes as factional battles intensify inside Luthuli House, with some ANC figures allegedly proposing the establishment of a national task team to replace the NEC itself. But a move seen by Ramaphosa loyalists as an attempted power grab.
The president warned that the party cannot be run “mafia-style,” calling for full lifestyle audits of NEC members to restore integrity and accountability. His remarks followed widespread media speculation claiming he intended to resign after the upcoming G20 summit – rumours firmly denied by his allies.
Despite the storm swirling inside the party, ANC spokespersons maintain that Ramaphosa remains firmly in charge and is expected to serve his term until 2027.
But his bold dare has now placed pressure squarely on his opponents:
either make their rebellion public, or abandon the underground campaign to unseat him.
One thing is certain, the ANC’s internal war is no longer hidden behind closed doors. It’s out in the open, and the stakes have never been higher.
