Mitchell’sPlain:- The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape has launched an intensive manhunt after a deadly shooting in Viscount Street, Rocklands, Mitchell’s Plain, on Tuesday evening, 02 December 2025.
The brutal attack left a nine-year-old boy, a 21-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man dead. Two other men, aged 51 and 36, sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
According to preliminary information, four armed suspects opened fire outside the property before storming the house and shooting the victims. The motive is believed to be gang-related. Detectives attached to the Anti-Gang Unit have been tasked with the investigation and are reportedly following up on several promising leads in their search for the shooters.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, has condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly and senseless act”, and vowed that those responsible will be brought to justice.
> “Gangsterism has no place in our society. We will not allow criminals to hold our communities hostage through fear and violence. The SAPS will tighten the net around these criminal elements and ensure every individual involved faces the law,” he said.
Patekile further issued a stern warning to gangs terrorising communities, saying:
“Your days of terror are numbered. We are coming.”
SAPS is appealing to the public to assist investigators with any information that could help trace the suspects. Tip-offs may be shared anonymously via Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS App.
