Over N12 Murder

Klerksdorp:- Four traffic officers accused of murdering a motorist on the N12 near Klerksdorp, are expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court today, on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
The arrests were confirmed by the North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, who welcomed the swift action taken by Klerksdorp police, in bringing the suspects to book. The four suspects, aged between 25 and 36, were arrested following an intensive investigation by detectives.
According to police information, the incident occurred at approximately 03:00 on Wednesday, 17 December 2025. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Osinakachukwu Macus Onu, a Nigerian national who was reportedly legally residing in South Africa, was allegedly chased by four traffic police officers while they were conducting operations on the N12 road in Klerksdorp.
During the pursuit, it is alleged that the victim was shot. His vehicle was later found abandoned in the middle of the road on the opposite side of the N12. Emergency services and police were alerted and responded swiftly to the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the traffic officials allegedly involved in the incident had already left the area.
Preliminary investigations and information gathered by detectives led police to a location in Klerksdorp, where the suspects were traced. Their official firearms were seized and will undergo forensic ballistic analysis as part of the investigation.
Major General Naidoo praised the Klerksdorp Detectives for their rapid and effective response, describing the arrests as a clear demonstration that no one is above the law. He also expressed appreciation to members of the public who assisted police with information that contributed to the arrests.
“This arrest sends a strong message that criminal behaviour, regardless of who is involved, will not be tolerated,” Naidoo said. He further urged community members to continue working closely with the police to help combat crime and ensure that justice is served.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised serious concerns about alleged corruption and abuse of power within law enforcement-related structures. Investigations are continuing, and police have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the matter unfolds.
