Bellville: – In a significant blow to the illicit trade network in the Western Cape, the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, working closely with brand protectors and other law enforcement partners, executed a high-impact operation on 16 December 2025.
The targeted raids focused on suspected business premises along Durban Road and at the Bellville Station Shopping Centre. A total of 35 premises were thoroughly searched, resulting in the confiscation of a large quantity of counterfeit clothing items, accessories, and perfumes.
Authorities estimate the street value of the seized goods at a staggering R115 000 000.00, marking one of the largest single-day hauls in recent efforts to combat fake products in the province.
This operation represents a major disruption to the supply chain of illicit goods flooding local markets, which often undermine legitimate businesses, deprive the economy of revenue, and pose risks to consumers through substandard products.
SAPS management in the Western Cape has strongly condemned the trade in counterfeit and illicit goods, describing it as a “blatant disregard for the law.” Officials emphasised that law enforcement will continue to act decisively against those profiting from such illegal activities.
Investigations are ongoing, with further actions and potential arrests anticipated as authorities trace the origins and networks behind the seized items.
The public is encouraged to report any information on the sale of suspected counterfeit goods to their nearest police station or via Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
