WESTERN CAPE:- A series of violent and safety-related incidents were reported across different communities in the Western Cape on Saturday and Sunday,
This incidents raising concerns about public safety as the festive season continues.
In Elsies River, a driving licence was reportedly found in Lansdowne Road earlier in the day. The public has been urged to assist in returning the licence to its rightful owner. Anyone who may have lost their licence in the area can contact Shaun on 061 455 4227.
Later the same day, a shooting incident was reported in Choir Street, Steenberg, where one adult male sustained a gunshot wound. According to available information, the injured man was transported to hospital by a private vehicle. Residents were cautioned to remain vigilant when walking or driving through the area.
In a separate incident in Stellenbosch, a male suspect was arrested after allegedly firing shots randomly at the corners of Andringa and Merriman Streets earlier in the day. The suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter at a nearby Pick n Pay liquor store.
Police confirmed that the firearm was confiscated and no injuries were reported. The suspect was taken into SAPS custody for further investigation.
Meanwhile, emergency services were notified of a stabbing incident in Bayern Munich Street, Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain. Details surrounding the circumstances of the stabbing have not yet been confirmed.
Later that evening, residents in Swartkops Street, Wesbank, reported hearing multiple gunshots fired in the area. At the time of publication, no official information regarding injuries or arrests had been released.
Police investigations into the incidents are ongoing. Community members are urged to report any suspicious activity to SAPS and to avoid areas where active crime scenes may be present.
