Clanwilliam:- The Cederberg Municipality confirms that human remains were discovered today in Elands Bay, near the sports field adjacent to the railway line.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has been notified and has taken control of the scene. Heritage Western Cape has been engaged and has indicated that the remains may be of First Nation origin.
The area has been cordoned off by SAPS to preserve the site. The Municipality is working closely with SAPS and Heritage Western Cape to manage the situation and support the ongoing assessment.
Heritage Western Cape is leading the process of further investigation and identification.
The Municipality will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available. Franquinn Petersen, Director of Community Services and Public Safety, is the designated municipal lead on this matter.
