Overstrand and Overberg Teams on High Alert

Stanford:- Firefighting teams from the Overstrand Municipality and Overberg District Municipality continue intensive operations to contain a vegetation fire in the Tesselaarsdal and Stanford area as of today.At 12:30 today, Overstrand Fire Services confirmed they are supporting the Overberg District Municipality and Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association (goFPA) Incident Commander. Firefighters, traffic officials and law enforcement remain on high alert across the affected zone.

The current operational priorities are:
Controlling the fire lines to prevent any spread towards the Stanford Hills area.
Blocking the head of the fire threatening the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
Protecting structures and properties in the vicinity.
Additional ground crews have been deployed to strengthen suppression efforts.

The Incident Commander’s 11:00 update outlined the following tactical deployments:

Objective 1: An NCC (National Crew) team will continue suppression work along the southern flank towards Stanford Hills.
Objective 2: Once the fire line above Stanford Hills is anchored or reaches a strong point, a Working on Fire (WoF) team will be deployed to suppress the line westward towards the fire’s head.
Objective 3: Two Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) teams and one WoF team will begin suppression from an anchor point on the northern (right) flank, aiming to cut off the fire’s head.

A helicopter remains on standby for structural protection if required.
Landowners and residents in the Tesselaarsdal, Stanford Hills and Hemel-en-Aarde areas are urged to remain vigilant, continue preparations and follow any instructions from emergency services.

No injuries or structural losses have been reported at this stage.  The situation is being closely monitored, with regular updates expected from the Overberg District Municipality and goFPA.
