Six Dead in Twin Early-Morning  Hours  Massacres

CCNews Editor – George C Aprl

Cape Town:-  In a chilling wave of violence that has rocked the Maitland area, six people were shot dead and two others wounded in two separate but near-simultaneous shootings in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The first horror unfolded just before 03:00 in Melck Street, Ndabeni, when a passer-by noticed a dog lying in a pool of blood and alerted police.  Officers who responded to the scene made a gruesome discovery inside a nearby informal dwelling: the bodies of three women, aged between 20 and 52, and one adult man, all riddled with fatal gunshot wounds.

All four were declared dead on the scene. No motive has yet been established and Serious Violent Crimes detectives are investigating.

Minutes later, at around 02:55, another blood-soaked scene awaited police just kilometres away at the Maitland Cemetery in Voortrekker Road, Kensington.  Four men were found shot.  Two – aged 35 and 36,  died at the scene, while the surviving victims, aged 31 and 32, were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.  Police believe this attack was gang-related. The Anti-Gang Unit has opened two murder dockets and two counts of attempted murder.

No arrests have been made in either incident.

Western Cape SAPS has strongly condemned what it called “senseless violence” and vowed to pursue the killers “with the full might of the law”.

Community leaders and residents in the affected areas expressed shock and fear, with many saying the brazen early-morning attacks have left them terrified to leave their homes.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop anonymously on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app.

The double massacre brings renewed urgency to calls for stronger measures against gang violence and illegal firearms plaguing Cape Flats communities.
