Western Cape:-  In the early hours of Thursday morning,  members searched two premises in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, and arrested two males, aged 25 and 31, for the illegal possession of a firearm and possession of imitation firearms.

A 9mm pistol, two imitation firearms, and 20 rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

The suspects will make their respective court appearances in Bishop Lavis and Goodwood once they have been formally charged.

In other incidents, police have dealt significant blows to illegal firearms and drug networks following two separate operations this week, resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of prohibited weapons and large quantities of mandrax tablets.

In an “ntelligence-driven operation in the Kleinvlei policing precinct on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, conducted targeted searches at premises in Kleinvlei and Eerste River.

The operations yielded two 9mm pistols along with ammunition, as well as 100 mandrax tablets discovered at different addresses. Three suspects, aged 39, 37, and 21, were arrested on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of drugs.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.

In a separate incident, members of the Public Order Police searched a premises on 11th Avenue, Bokmakierie, in Athlone, where they uncovered 600 mandrax tablets hidden in a cupboard.   A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene for possession of the drugs.  He is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court  today.

These arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape to remove dangerous firearms and illicit drugs from communities, reducing the potential for violent crime and drug-related harm.
