Community’s Demanded Safety, Justice, and Government Accountability
CCN Reporter – George April
CAPE FLATS:- The community of Ottery and surrounding areas has once again been shaken by violence, after a man who was shot earlier, has sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Residents have expressed deep concern and frustration, describing the ongoing violence on the Cape Flats as something that “can never be normal.” Many families say they are living in constant fear, with gunfire and crime disrupting daily life, especially impacting children who are expected to attend school and concentrate despite traumatic nights.
Community members have called for prayers and unity during this difficult time, while extending heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
At the same time, there is growing anger directed at government leadership. Residents are urging President Cyril Ramaphosa and the broader Government of National Unity to urgently address, what they describe as a failing justice and safety system.
“What is human rights if people are not safe?” one resident asked. “Our communities are living in fear every day. This is not normal, and it cannot continue.”
Calls are mounting for stronger action, improved policing, and for politicians to honour the promises made to communities plagued by crime and violence.
As the Cape Flats continues to grapple with these challenges, residents are demanding real change.
Not only for justice, but for the safety and future of their children.
