“Keep the PA’s Name Out of Your Mouth!”

Reporter – George April

Cape Town:-  Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader and Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has issued a strong public warning to former party member Liam Jacobs after his surprise return to the Democratic Alliance (DA).

In a lengthy Facebook livestream, McKenzie repeatedly told Jacobs to stop mentioning the PA and cautioned that continued criticism could lead to a strong backlash on social media.

Key quotes from McKenzie’s response:
“Keep the PA’s name out of your mouth!” (repeatedly emphasised, also phrased in Afrikaans as “Los die PA se naam uit jou mond uit!”)
“If Liam Jacobs wants a war with the PA, he should continue with what he’s doing. We will make social media very uncomfortable for him.”
“Nobody trusted you in the PA. No one. No one trusted you.”
“We protected you when the DA spat you out… For me, because I really have a soft spot for you, los die PA se naam.”

McKenzie also noted that Jacobs “never worked the ground with us” and was in Rwanda while others campaigned, describing him as having an “inflated ego” and not fully fitting the PA’s culture of serving the poor and working-class communities.

Jacobs, aged 25, left the DA for the PA in 2025 before announcing his return this week as an ordinary activist. In his statement, he apologised for his previous criticism of the DA, saying he had been “misled by lies” and described McKenzie’s leadership style in critical terms, including references to cadre deployment.
McKenzie said he respected Jacobs’ choice to return to the DA but urged him not to attack the PA or turn it into an enemy. He also touched on broader issues, such as the challenges faced by coloured politicians within the DA.

The public exchange has ignited lively debate across social media platforms, reflecting ongoing tensions in South Africa’s multi-party politics.
