Grassy Park and Delft SAPS Make Key Arrests in Firearm-Related Incidents

Reporter – George April

Cape Town – Members of Grassy Park SAPS acted swiftly on a tip-off regarding a suspect wanted for attempted murder who was reportedly hiding in Parkerswalk, Parkwood. Upon arriving at the identified location, officers heard noises coming from the roof. As they pursued the sounds, they discovered the suspect attempting to evade capture while in possession of a 9mm pistol and four rounds of ammunition. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody at Grassy Park police station.

In a separate incident Delft SAPS officers conducting routine patrols at Sunny Ackers Shopping Centre noticed two men walking in their direction. Upon seeing the police vehicle, one of the men turned around and attempted to flee, dropping a sling bag in the process. His accomplice quickly picked up the bag, but officers managed to intercept and apprehend him. A search of the bag revealed a .38 Smith & Wesson revolver with six rounds of ammunition. The 28-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Both arrests form part of the South African Police Service’s continued efforts to combat crime and remove illegal firearms from communities. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to their local SAPS stations or via the anonymous Crime Stop hotline.

Investigations into both cases are ongoing.
