For Attempted Murder – Allegedly Linked to Gang Activity
CAPE TOWN:- A City of Cape Town law enforcement officer has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder.
He is allegedly conspiring with a known Cape Flats gang boss to target a witness.
The officer, who was attached to Project 1 000 — a specialized initiative aimed at combating crime — was apprehended during a raid on a property associated with gang activities. The operation was launched following the arrest of a woman found in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Further searches led to the discovery of drugs and additional weapons on the premises.
According to police, the officer had been under surveillance for several months prior to the arrest. Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, confirmed that a coordinated multi-agency investigation resulted in the breakthrough.
The City’s safety directorate has launched disciplinary proceedings against the officer, amid growing public scrutiny over the effectiveness of internal vetting and oversight measures.
The investigation continues….
