As a result of these operations, police have confiscated 24 illegal firearms, including an AK47 assault rifle and a shotgun, along with 371 rounds of ammunition. In addition, SAPS detectives successfully arrested 67 suspects linked to murder and attempted murder during tracing operations.

Police say these proactive measures — which include increased patrols, targeted raids, and intelligence-driven searches — are part of ongoing efforts to restore safety in communities plagued by violent crime.

Lieutenant General (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, praised the dedication of officers on the ground.

“Firearms remain the weapon of choice for criminals. We are determined to break this cycle and create safer neighborhoods for everyone in the Western Cape,” Patekile said. “We urge residents to work with us by reporting criminal activities. Together, we can dismantle these threats to our communities.”

Police confirmed that operations will continue across known crime hotspots as part of an aggressive campaign to reduce gang-related violence and firearm-related crimes.
