As of 13:00 today, February 20, 2025, firefighting efforts continue in Wellington, with crews from the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM), NCC, and CapeNature actively engaged.
The fire line above the Foxenberg and Rooshoek farms, previously contained, experienced a flare-up, prompting teams to return to the area. In the Oaklands farm region, the fire is descending toward a road, and crews plan to guide it into previously burned areas to allow it to extinguish naturally. Near the Vrugbaar and Andreas farms, the fire line is advancing steadily; teams are utilizing a mountain bike trail to establish a firebreak. Additionally, crews have encountered bees from hives under trees in the plantation, but no injuries have been reported. While wind conditions are favorable, the very hot weather is making firefighting efforts challenging.
The current weather in Wellington is partly sunny, with a temperature of 94°F (34°C). Today’s high is expected to reach 102°F (39°C), with a low of 64°F (18°C). The forecast indicates continued hot conditions in the coming days, with temperatures remaining in the mid-90s.
