Cape Town:- Residents across Cape Town are once again caught in the grip of fear, forced to navigate daily life in communities plagued by shootings and uncertainty.
On Tuesday evening, two men were shot in Gail Court, Manenberg. One victim succumbed to his injuries while the other was rushed to hospital. Community groups have since urged residents to remain vigilant when moving through the area.
Earlier in the day, Ward Councillor Deidre De Vos voiced her frustration, explaining how ongoing gang violence disrupts essential services.
“Each time it feels like we try to take one step forward, we end up being pushed ten steps back.” “The safety of both our residents and our teams must come first,” she said, warning that maintenance projects may have to be suspended if violence continues”.
Meanwhile, in Mfuleni, a woman was shot and wounded at a salon in Inkonjane Way on Tuesday night. She was taken to hospital by private transport.
Residents say these constant incidents have left them living in a state of fear – afraid to send children to school, walk to work, or even allow maintenance teams into their neighbourhoods.
Many are asking whether this is the “best-run province” that President Cyril Ramaphosa recently praised. For them, the reality is starkly different: streets lined with danger, families torn by violence, and communities struggling for peace.
