Woman Dies at Mfuleni Station While Vredendal Farm Murder Investigation Drags On

“Broken: Family at the body of the woman who died at Mfuleni police station.”

Two separate incidents in the Western Cape are once again highlighting serious concerns about police conduct, delays, and lack of accountability.  Cape Coast News (CCNews Online) reports on the death of a woman who collapsed at Mfuleni Police Station and the ongoing alleged cover-up in the murder of 33-year-old Francois Marius Stout on a farm near Vredendal.

Woman Collapses and Dies at Mfuleni Police Station

Mfuleni:-  A woman who had been reported missing collapsed and died at the Mfuleni Police Station on Thursday.

Her family is furious, claiming that the police’s refusal to immediately transport her to hospital contributed to her death.  According to the family, the woman had been at the station for the entire day. Police earlier indicated she was unable to speak or provide her details. When family members arrived to fetch her, she collapsed just as they were about to leave.

The family urgently requested that police take her to hospital in a police vehicle, but officers allegedly insisted they call an ambulance instead. The ambulance only arrived approximately three hours later, by which time paramedics declared her dead at the scene.  Her body remains at the Mfuleni Police Station.

This incident has caused widespread outrage on social media and in the community.

Farm Murder: Post-Mortem Still Delayed, Family Stonewalled

MATZIKAMA:- In Vredendal, the family of late Francois Marius Stout  (33) remains devastated after nearly two month after his death on 30 March 2026 on a farm near Van Rhynsdorp.

Eyewitnesses, including an 11-year-old boy and farm workers, have provided statements describing how the farm owner allegedly strangled Stout until he collapsed on his knees.  A bakkie then arrived on scene, after which the owner spoke to the driver and the vehicle left.  The incident was only reported later that evening.

The farm owner claims Stout fell through the roof of a storeroom.  The family strongly rejects this version, with the father stating that even a baby would not be seriously injured falling from that height.

The father visited the police station again on Friday seeking answers but received none.  A detective later visited the father and merely stated that he had not yet received a report from the mortuary that could be forwarded to the state prosecutor.  The post-mortem examination has still not been finalised, causing major delays.

Funeral funders (Capitec paid only half) are withholding further payouts until the full report with the cause of death is released.  The elderly parents, who describe themselves as “stukkend”, searching for answer’s.

Pattern of Police Silence Towards CCNews

CCNews Online has sent multiple formal media inquiries to SAPS (Vredendal, West Coast District, and Provincial Communications), IPID, and the South African Human Rights Commission regarding both incidents.  To date, not a single response has been received.

This is not an isolated occurrence.  CCNews has repeatedly experienced that police fail to respond to our inquiries,  apparently because our questions come too close to the truth.

Community Frustration Growing

Community member Billie Claasen previously expressed the Vredendal family’s pain in a widely shared Facebook post after standing with them at the Forensic Pathology Unit. He wrote (translated):

“The truth must come out…

Why must someone be unnecessarily killed?

Why must we stand behind the police so that the truth comes out?

Why???

It is not the first time that certain farmers from Matzikama are involved in such cases –  Wrong is wrong.”

Urgent Calls for IPID and SAHRC Intervention

The two incidents,  a woman dying at a police station due to alleged delayed medical assistance, and the apparent protection of a suspect in a farm murder – point to a disturbing pattern of police negligence and lack of accountability in the Western Cape.

CCNews reiterates its call on the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) to immediately investigate both cases for possible misconduct, bias, and failure to uphold their duties. We also call on SAHRC Commissioner Chris Nissen to respond to written complaints about human rights violations affecting these families.  The elderly parents in Vredendal and the grieving family in Mfuleni deserve transparency and justice, not silence.

Cape Coast News will continue to report on these matters without fear or favour until answers are provided.
