Cape Peninsula:- In a continued effort to curb gang violence and drug trafficking, Operation Shanela II members made significant breakthroughs during crime prevention operations in Bishop Lavis and Delft on Thursday.

During a stop-and-search operation in Taaibos Street, Bonteheuwel, police received crucial information from the public about suspected drug activity at a local premises. Acting swiftly, officers searched the house and discovered 162 packets containing crystal meth, mandrax tablets, cocaine, and an undisclosed amount of cash. A 22-year-old male was arrested on charges of drug possession.

Meanwhile, in Minnesota Street, Delft, Operation Shanela II members conducted a separate search that led to the confiscation of 34 mandrax tablets, four half mandrax tablets, and 39 packets of crystal meth. A 39-year-old man was taken into custody for possession of drugs.

These arrests form part of the SAPS’s ongoing Operation Shanela II initiative, which targets organized crime, gang violence, and drug distribution networks across the Western Cape.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to creating safer communities and have thanked members of the public for their assistance and vigilance.

“The removal of drugs from our streets is a collective victory for our communities,” said a SAPS spokesperson.
