This leadership change comes at a pivotal time for the precinct, as the community continues to grapple with persistent crime challenges while building on recent positive trends in safety interventions.

Colonel Harmans brings a proven track record of effective policing, including her previous successes in resource allocation and combating gangsterism during her tenure at Muizenberg SAPS.  The CPF looks forward to fostering a strong, collaborative partnership with her open-door approach, which emphasizes ongoing community engagement, improved service delivery, and enhanced safety measures across the precinct.

Steenberg remains one of the areas affected by violent crime in the City of Cape Town, often highlighted in SAPS reports as a contributor to gang-related incidents in the Western Cape. Recent statistics reflect the ongoing challenges: for example, in earlier quarters of 2025, Steenberg featured among high-contributing stations for serious crimes, though targeted interventions have shown promise. Notably, reaction unit efforts in areas including Steenberg achieved a significant reduction in murder rates in certain reporting periods, such as a reported -56.3% drop in one analyzed quarter compared to the previous year, contributing to combined reductions in high-risk zones.

While provincial trends indicate fluctuations, with some increases in violent crimes like murder in parts of the Western Cape during 2025/2026 quarters – the Steenberg precinct has benefited from collaborative programs aimed at curbing gang violence and improving community safety. Under Colonel Harmans’ leadership, the CPF and SAPS are committed to intensifying these efforts through visible policing, sector management, detective work, and active partnerships with residents.

The CPF encourages all community members to engage openly with Colonel Harmans and the team, report incidents promptly, and participate in CPF initiatives. Together, we can strengthen community ties and drive further reductions in crime for a safer Steenberg.

For more information or to get involved, contact your local CPF representatives or Steenberg SAPS. Stay vigilant and united for a safer community.
