CAPE TOWN:- Western Cape police intensify operations as suspects arrested in Ravensmead, Khayelitsha and Lavender Hill
A series of intelligence-driven operations by South African Police Service (SAPS) has led to multiple arrests and the seizure of drugs, firearms, and cash across several Cape Flats communities.
In Ravensmead, officers acted on gathered intelligence and conducted a targeted operation at a residence in Canterbury Street, Eureka Estate. Two suspects believed to be linked to drug activities were arrested after police confiscated mandrax tablets, tik, cocaine, ecstasy, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Meanwhile, in Khayelitsha, members attached to Makhaza SAPS arrested five male suspects during a stop-and-search operation. Police recovered two prohibited firearms along with ammunition. The suspects are expected to appear before the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court.
In a separate incident in Lavender Hill, a 22-year-old man was arrested at Parkin Court after being spotted allegedly carrying a firearm in public. According to South African Police Service officers from Steenberg, the suspect attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. He is expected to appear at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court.
Police say these operations form part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession in crime-affected areas.
“We will continue to act on intelligence and maintain pressure on criminal elements to ensure safer communities,” a police spokesperson said.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities to their nearest police station or via anonymous tip-offs.
