Cape Town:- In a renewed push against illegal immigration, Western Cape law enforcement agencies have arrested dozens of undocumented foreign nationals across the province in multiple operations over the past week.

Authorities, including SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, and Metro Police, conducted targeted raids focusing on workplaces and high-risk areas. One major operation in the Cape Town CBD resulted in the arrest of 27 undocumented immigrants at a construction site in Bree Street. Many of the individuals attempted to flee or hide when officers arrived, but were apprehended.
Additional raids in areas such as Milnerton (China City) and Century City led to the arrest of at least 25 more undocumented foreign nationals for contravening the Immigration Act.
Police spokespeople have emphasized that these operations form part of broader efforts under initiatives like Operation Prosper and multi-disciplinary inspections to address both illegal immigration and linked criminal activities, including illegal employment practices and counterfeit goods trading.
The arrested individuals are being processed and are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court. Those confirmed as undocumented face deportation proceedings after appearing in court.
This wave of arrests comes amid heightened public concern over the impact of undocumented immigration on local jobs, crime, and resources – issues frequently raised in community discussions and on social media police forums.
Western Cape SAPS has indicated that similar high-density operations will continue in the coming weeks to curb illegal immigration and associated offences.
CCN will monitor further developments as more details on the nationalities involved and court outcomes become available.
