CCN Reporter

Cape Town:- Members of Operation Prosper arrested two suspects in separate incidents in Khayelitsha on Thursday, 9 July, after unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered during targeted policing operations.According to police, a 21-year-old suspect was arrested in Memzi Street, Site B, after officers discovered an unlicensed firearm and eight rounds of ammunition in his possession.

In a separate operation in Krwaca Street, also in Site B, police arrested a 34-year-old man after an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were allegedly found at his residence.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

In a separate incident, members of the Public Order Police (POP) Unit arrested a 25-year-old suspect during a stop-and-search operation in the Ethembeni Informal Settlement, Lwandle.

Police allegedly found the suspect in possession of 15 half Mandrax tablets and 58 sachets of tik. He has been charged with possession of drugs and is expected to make his first court appearance in the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court.

The arrests form part of the Western Cape police’s ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms and drugs from communities through Operation Prosper and other crime prevention initiatives.

Police have reiterated their commitment to creating safer communities by targeting the illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs, which remain key drivers of violent crime across the province.
