Piketberg:- The community of the Bergrivier municipality remains in shock and grief, as the case of State vs. Heinrich Adams unfolds, following the tragic stabbing of 24-year-old Mornay Adams by his older brother, Heinrich Adams, in the early hours of Sunday, 16 March 2025.

According to reports, the altercation stemmed from a dispute over money. Mornay Adams, described by relatives as a kind-hearted man and a prophet, had recently received financial payouts from his previous employer and the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). The family, friends, and community are grappling with the heartbreaking reality of a family bond severed by violence.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that Piketberg detectives are investigating a murder case following the stabbing. “Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the victim with multiple stab wounds. Medical personnel declared him deceased on site,” Twigg said. “A 32-year-old male was arrested later that evening in connection with the murder and appeared in the Piketberg Magistrates’ Court on 18 March.”
The case has sparked a wave of mixed reactions from the community. While some members have expressed support for Heinrich Adams, community leaders, and activists have taken a strong stance against granting him bail. Reports indicate that they plan to file a memorandum with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) opposing his bail application, arguing that justice must be served for Prophet Mornay Adams.
“The crime committed is serious, and we cannot allow such violence to go unpunished. We stand with the victim and demand justice,” said a local activist.
The case has been postponed for a formal bail application hearing on 1 April 2025 in the Piketberg Magistrates’ Court. Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward. Crime Stop can be contacted at 08600 10111.
As the community remains divided, the case has become a focal point for discussions on justice, family disputes, and the broader social challenges that contribute to such tragedies.
