MOORREESBURG:- After years of waiting, the family of Jenito Smith finally sees progress in their pursuit of justice.
The murder trial of the Moorreesburg father and son accused of his killing, is set to begin on Wednesday April 9 in the Malmesbury Regional Court.
For Jenito’s mother, Marinda Smith, the news comes as a long-awaited relief. “Finally,” she said in a WhatsApp message, her emotions evident in her words. The uncertainty and delays have weighed heavily on the family, but now, with the trial date confirmed, there is hope that justice will take its course.
Jenito Smith was only 17 years old when he was fatally stabbed in Moorreesburg mid-town. His alleged killer, Christiano Solomons, was just 14 at the time. However, Christiano’s father, Christiaan Pieters, is also charged with murder, as he allegedly provided the knife used in the attack.
The case, which had seemingly gone cold, was revived after community activist Deon Carelse intervened, pushing authorities to act. With the trial now set to begin, the Smith family is preparing for an emotional journey, one they hope will bring closure and justice for their beloved Jenito.
For now, they hold onto hope that the legal system will finally deliver the justice they have been waiting for.
