SAPS URGES FAMILIES TO COME FORWARD

CCN news team

The Eastern Cape South African Police Service (SAPS), in partnership with the Department of Transport, is appealing to families whose loved ones may have been travelling from Qonce to Cape Town on Saturday, 3 May 2025, to urgently come forward for identification.

This follows a tragic head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a bakkie on the R63 near Maqoma, approximately 90km from Qonce.  The devastating crash claimed the lives of 15 individuals.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Maqoma Government Mortuary.  Families who believe their relatives may have been involved are requested to contact Captain Fete at SAPS Maqoma on 082 090 2742 for assistance and guidance through the identification process.

Authorities are working diligently to fast-track identifications and are providing necessary support to affected families during this time of profound loss.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to all families and communities impacted by this tragedy.
