But For How Long?
Reporter – George April
Cape Town:- Last night around 21:45, another violent robbery unfolded on the slopes of Lion’s Head, a chilling reminder of the escalating crime wave gripping the Western Cape.
This time, the suspects didn’t get far, thanks to swift action and technology.
A stolen cellphone’s live tracking led the Titanium Securitas Crime Prevention Unit, along with two other private security companies and the SAPS Flying Squad, to Dowa Street in Delft. There, four suspects attempted to flee, but their run from justice was short-lived. They were swiftly apprehended in a coordinated take-down.
On searching the suspects, officers recovered six iPhone’s and a number of other stolen items. All four were transported to Cape Town Central Police Station for further processing.
But the question burning in every citizen’s mind remains – for how long will they be behind bars?
In a system where suspects are regularly released on bail within hours , only to return to the streets and strike again. Communities have long lost faith in the justice system, these are common feelings when communities meet about crime – “the justice system”
People are tired.
Tired of crime.
Tired of empty promises.
Tired of a justice system that seems to protect criminals more than citizens.
The arrests are a small victory in a much bigger war. But if bail is granted tomorrow, as is so often the case, it may feel like yet another battle lost.
