Bellville:- Members of the Hawks’ National Priority Violent Crime (NPVC) unit in Bellville have arrested 40-year-old Nyameko Samela in connection with a January cash-in-transit robbery and the attempted murder of a G4S crew member.

On the morning of 14 May 2025, NPVC investigators took Samela into custody.  His arrest follows a month-long inquiry into a January incident at the Food Lovers Market in Somerset West.  On  January 21. 2025, a G4S vehicle pulled up outside the store to collect deposited funds. While one crew member entered the shop, armed assailants opened fire and seriously wounded him as he fled. The suspects escaped with two bags containing approximately R331 000 in cash.

“Through meticulous investigation and forensic linkage, we identified Samela as a principal suspect,” said Brigadier [Name], spokesperson for the Hawks. “We worked closely with forensic teams and relied on CCTV footage to secure this arrest.”

At the time of his detention on 14 May, Samela was already in custody on unrelated charges. He was formally requisitioned by NPVC investigators and appeared before the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court on May 15. 2025. The case has been remanded to 3 July 2025, with Samela remaining in custody pending further inquiry.

The Hawks have urged anyone with additional information about this crime or other violent offences in the Western Cape to come forward. “Public assistance is crucial in dismantling violent networks,”
