Western Cape:- The fight against drugs in the Western Cape took a significant step forward this week, after police arrested a suspect found in possession of a large quantity of mandrax tablets in Delft.
Members of Operation Restore were conducting routine crime prevention duties in the Voorbrug area on Monday when they noticed a man exiting a premises carrying a plastic bag. Trusting their instincts, officers stopped and searched the individual, leading to a major breakthrough. Inside the bag, police discovered 2,108 mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of R105,400. The 39-year-old suspect was immediately arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
He is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court today.
Community and Police Responses
Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating drug-related crimes. “We urge residents to continue providing information that can assist in our efforts to remove drugs from our streets,” he said.(IOL)
Francois de Bruin, spokesperson for the Delft Community Policing Forum (CPF), expressed concern over the prevalence of drug activity in the area. “It’s very disturbing to see such large quantities of drugs in our community. This arrest comes amid rising concern over drug-related activity in the province, with community leaders calling for increased police visibility and intervention.
