Cape Town:- In a major political shake-up, Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament, Liam Jacobs has officially crossed the floor to join the Patriotic Alliance (PA).
The late-night announcement has sparked widespread reaction across political circles.
The move follows a heated confrontation during a recent parliamentary portfolio committee session, where Jacobs engaged in a fiery debate with PA leader Gayton McKenzie. What many viewed as a routine political clash now appears to have been the catalyst for a deeper personal and ideological shift.
According to insiders, matters deteriorated for Jacobs shortly after the exchange when he was allegedly confronted behind closed doors by a senior DA chief whip. Sources say the internal dispute left Jacobs feeling undermined and disrespected.
In an exclusive quote, Jacobs said…
“I joined the Democratic Alliance to serve my community and fight for justice, but over time I felt the voice of the people was being silenced from within. I’m not here for politics as usual, I’m here to make a difference. The PA shares my vision, and I believe this is where real change can happen.”
The Patriotic Alliance has welcomed Jacobs, describing his defection as a “bold and strategic move.”
PA leader Gayton McKenzie responded by saying:
“Liam is a fighter and a man of integrity. He belongs with a party that values the people more than party politics. We are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him.”
Jacobs is expected to address the media formally at a press conference later this week where he will outline his goals within the Patriotic Alliance.
