Western Cape:-  A targeted crackdown on gang violence and drug trafficking has led to multiple arrests and significant seizures in the Western Cape.

As part of Operation Shanela II, police teams moved into known crime hotspots, conducting searches in Hanover Park and Steenberg on Tuesday, 12 August 2025.

In Vygie Street, Hanover Park, officers arrested a 54-year-old man for dealing in drugs and possession of an imitation firearm. The search uncovered:

– Six 1kg bags of dagga

– 84 sticks of dagga

– 231 dagga cigarettes

– An undisclosed amount of cash

– An imitation firearm

A second search in Ivoorhout Street, Hanover Park, led to the seizure of 40.52 grams of crystal meth and the arrest of a 42-year-old man for drug possession.

Meanwhile, in the Steenberg area, stop-and-search operations resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old man found in possession of 14 rounds of ammunition.

Police confirmed that the suspects will appear in the Athlone and Wynberg Magistrates’ Courts once charged.

Authorities say the operations are part of an ongoing effort to dismantle criminal networks and ensure safer communities.
