MITCHELLS PLAIN:-  Tragedy struck the Tafelsig community when 12-year-old Moegamat Faizel Challis was killed by a stray bullet during a gang shooting on Thursday night.

The young boy was on his way to collect party packets for his younger siblings at the corner of Moira and Wendy Streets when shots rang out. A bullet struck him in the head.

Family members say Faizel was rushed to Mitchells Plain Day Hospital and later transferred to Red Cross Children’s Hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma. Sadly, he passed away the following day.

Police confirmed a murder and attempted murder case after a 29-year-old man was also shot in the leg. The shooting is believed to be gang-related.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app anonymously.
