– Two illegal firearms recovered in Irvine Street operations

Cape Town: – In a strong show of force against gang-related crime, members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) successfully recovered a stolen firearm and arrested a 38-year-old suspect during an operation in Irvine Street, Manenberg, on Saturday, 25 October 2025.
Acting swiftly on intelligence received, officers searched a targeted address where they discovered a 9mm pistol without a serial number, two magazines, and four containers of 9mm ammunition. Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen in Durbanville around March 2025. The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.
In a separate incident the following day, Sunday, 26 October 2025, Manenberg police once again made their presence felt in the same street. Following up on another intelligence-driven operation, they arrested a second 38-year-old gang-affiliated male.
Police found a 9mm pistol with no serial number, one magazine, and fifteen rounds of ammunition. The suspect was charged with illegal possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition, and will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
These operations form part of ongoing efforts by SAPS to curb the spread of illegal firearms and reduce gang violence on the Cape Flats.
