FAMILY ESCAPES VIOLENT TAXI ATTACK

Kuilsriver:- A routine Thursday morning drive turned into a horrifying ordeal for a young family, when a minibus taxi driver allegedly attacked a motorist in full view of his wife and their six-month-old baby on Hindle Road, Kuilsriver, at around 07:30.
According to the victim, he was travelling straight through a green light when a taxi suddenly swerved from the side and forced itself into their lane. The sudden movement caused the taxi’s tow bar to clip the front bumper of his vehicle, damaging the headlight.
He stepped out to inspect the damage, but the confrontation quickly escalated. The taxi driver, described as highly aggressive, allegedly stormed toward him, shouting and swearing. Realising the danger, especially with his infant and wife still inside, the motorist attempted to get back into his vehicle. Before he could close the door, he says the taxi driver punched him twice in the face, and again as he tried to climb in.
In fear, he asked his wife to record the attack for evidence. Instead of deterring the assailant, the sight of the phone enraged him further. He allegedly tried to smash the passenger window where the terrified mother held their baby. The window held, but not for long.
The attacker then kicked the door, broke the side mirror, and moved to the driver’s side where he smashed the second mirror before eventually shattering the driver’s side window. The baby reportedly began crying while the couple feared the situation could turn even more violent.
Good Samaritans who witnessed the chaos from surrounding vehicles, stepped in, creating a barrier that prevented the taxi driver from reaching the family. The brief window of protection allowed them to flee along the shoulder of the road.
Later that morning, members of CODETA reportedly escorted the taxi driver to the police station, where a case has now been opened. The victim says he hopes justice will follow and that the incident serves as a warning, of how fast road rage can escalate into life-threatening violence.
He also expressed deep gratitude to the motorists who intervened.
“If those people didn’t help us, I don’t know what could have happened,” he said.
