Cape Town:- The past week saw several major breakthroughs in the fight against crime across Cape Town.
Through the coordinated efforts of SAPS, Metro Police, Law Enforcement, and Traffic Services, multiple arrests were made, stolen vehicles recovered, and illegal weapons and drugs seized—bringing welcome relief to some of the city’s most affected communities.
JOINT OPERATIONS BRING RESULTS
Following a rise in gang-related violence in Steenberg, an intensified deployment was carried out by the City’s enforcement teams, working in partnership with SAPS. On Monday, 7 April, officers recovered a stolen vehicle in Vrygrond with assistance from the SAPS Flying Squad. Two suspects were arrested at the scene.
The very next day, Tuesday 8 April, Law Enforcement officers patrolling Woodstock stopped a suspicious vehicle. Upon investigation, it too was confirmed stolen. The driver had no valid ID or license and offered no explanation—leading to an immediate arrest and vehicle impoundment.
MAJOR DRUG AND FIREARM BUSTS
In separate incidents, Cape Town’s Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officers made significant arrests:
Woodstock, Wednesday: Three suspects were arrested with various illegal drugs.
Lotus River, Wednesday: A 23-year-old male was caught with 18 Mandrax tablets and 16 sachets of Tik.
Hanover Park, Sunday: Gunfire led LEAP officers to arrest a 21-year-old male with a prohibited firearm (serial number removed) and live ammunition.
Gugulethu, same week: A suspect involved in a shooting was apprehended after a chase. He too was found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
DEDICATED POLICING ON THE WAY
The City’s upcoming budget includes a major safety boost: each ward will soon be assigned a dedicated team of certified Metro Police officers. This move aims to improve visibility, speed up responses, and bring policing closer to every community.
These recent successes show what’s possible when enforcement works hand-in-hand with intelligence and community support. Cape Town’s message is clear: we’re not backing down on crime.
