As Police Urge Public Vigilance

Cape Town:- A disturbing surge in violent incidents across several Cape Town communities, has left residents fearful and calling for stronger police visibility.
Residents especially fears their lives as the festive season gains momentum.
In Kanonkop Street, Beacon Hill, Atlantis, residents reported stone-throwing incidents, creating a serious risk to passing vehicles and pedestrians. Community members warned that the situation could easily escalate if not addressed swiftly.
Elsewhere, a man was left with serious head injuries following an assault in Five Road, Marcus Garvey, Philippi East. South African Police Service (SAPS) members responded promptly and secured the scene while emergency medical services attended to the victim.
Another assault incident was reported earlier in Vlei Road, Scottsville, Kraaifontein, where a male victim was injured and taken to hospital. The circumstances surrounding the attack are still under investigation.
Shortly before midday, SAPS attended yet another assault scene in Greenpark Informal Settlement, near the R300 and Driftsands Nature Reserve. The victim sustained head injuries and required medical attention. Police have cautioned road users and pedestrians to remain alert in the area.
Adding to growing public anxiety, an attempted kidnapping was reported at Vangate Mall. The suspect was swiftly apprehended and taken to the police station. The young girl involved was safely reunited with her parents.
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson confirmed that police are actively investigating the incidents.
“The South African Police Service can confirm that members attended several crime scenes across the Cape Town policing area on Saturday, 13 December 2025. In all reported cases, victims received medical assistance and suspects are being pursued or have been arrested where applicable. SAPS appeals to communities to remain vigilant, avoid dangerous situations, and report criminal activity immediately to their nearest police station or by calling 10111.”
Residents have voiced growing frustration and fear.
“We cannot even shop or walk freely anymore. Parents are scared for their children. Police visibility must increase, especially now during the festive season,” said a concerned community member.
Local leaders have echoed the call for unity and cooperation between residents and law enforcement to prevent further violence.
Police investigations into all incidents are ongoing. SAPS has urged the public to stay alert, avoid isolated areas where possible, and to look out for one another during this high-risk period.
