Justice Waits, But It Will Come…

Loeriesfontein:- The perpetrator, a 16-year-old boy at the time of the crime, sneaked into the victim’s bedroom, while she was sleeping and raped her.
The courageous young girl reported the incident to her family, leading to the opening of a case and the swift arrest of the accused.
Due to his age at the time, the case followed the appropriate legal processes for juveniles.
However, once the offender turned 18 in 2025, the full weight of adult justice was brought to bear. The court convicted him on two counts of rape and sentenced him to 10 years’ direct imprisonment on each count, to run concurrently. This means – effectively removing a dangerous predator from society for a decade.
Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, praised Detective Constable Jacques Nielsen of the Calvinia Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for his dedicated and thorough investigation. “This outcome brings closure to the victim and her family, and sends a clear message that crimes against our children will not go unpunished,” she stated.
The Message to Minors Who Commit Serious Crimes
This case serves as a stern warning to any young person contemplating heinous acts: Youth may offer temporary protection under the law, but time does not erase wrongdoing. When you reach legal age, the justice system can, and will hold you fully accountable as an adult.
Too often, we hear excuses that “nothing happens” to young offenders. This story proves otherwise. The wheels of justice may turn slowly to ensure fairness, but they turn relentlessly. Victims and their families do not forget, investigators do not give up, and courts do not forgive crimes of this magnitude.
To the “youngsters” who think they can commit serious offences with impunity: Think again. One day, you will be an adult standing in court, facing the consequences of your actions.
Protect our children, respect the law, and choose a better path, because justice delayed is not justice denied.
It is justice served.
