CCN News

Pretoria:- In a major boost to policing efforts during the busy festive period, the South African Police Service (SAPS) today received 162 state-of-the-art vehicles  for deployment across Gauteng Province.

The handover ceremony, held at the Rigel Avenue off-ramp, was officiated by Deputy Minister of Police Cassel Mathale and National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola. The new fleet includes high-performance models such as BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, and Volkswagens, designed to enhance rapid response, visible policing, and operational efficiency in high-crime areas.

The additional resources come as part of the nationwide **#SaferFestiveSeason** campaign, aimed at ramping up patrols, roadblocks, stop-and-searches, and the tracing of wanted suspects to ensure safer communities over the holidays.

“This handover demonstrates SAPS’ commitment to improving police visibility and response times, particularly in hotspot areas,” said officials at the event. The vehicles will support units tackling serious crimes, including extortion, gang violence, and robberies.

Meanwhile, in the Western Cape, similar efforts are underway to bolster frontline policing.
