Multiple Shootings, Murder, Fire and Dog Attack in Hours-Long Spree

CCN Reporting

Western Cape:- A night of terror unfolded across parts of the Cape Flats and surrounding areas in the Western Cape last night, (8 February) into this morning (9 February), marked by a series of violent incidents including shootings, a murder scene, a house fire, and an animal attack.Picture: Shooting incident in Stephen road – Lotus River where three people where shot last night.

The violence began around 8:54 PM in Matroosburg Crescent, Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, where a Wendy house caught alight.  Emergency services rushed to the scene to battle the blaze in the informal structure,  a common form of housing in the area.  While details on casualties or the cause remain unclear, such fires often pose severe risks in densely populated townships.
Shortly after, at approximately 9:02 PM, a shooting was reported in Outeniqua Crescent,  Wallacedene,  Kraaifontein, leaving one person injured from gunshot wounds.
The bloodshed continued with a grim discovery around 9:22 PM on Van Riebeeck Road, Eerste River, near the cemetery.  Police (SAPS) arrived at what was described as a murder scene, with officers securing the area for investigation.
Minutes later, at 9:24 PM, another fatal shooting occurred in Kasba Street, Wesbank.  One victim was pronounced dead at the scene,  prompting SAPS attendance and ambulance dispatch (reference: 1002973316).
By 9:32 PM, emergency responders were notified of yet another shooting in Stanley Road,  Lotus River,  where injuries were reported on site.
The violence persisted into the early hours.  At 1:24 AM, a person was shot in Shiela Street,  Avonwood,  Elsies River, and rushed to hospital for treatment.
The string of incidents concluded this morning at 7:02 AM in Palm Lane, Mamre, where a dog attack left someone with bite injuries.  Services responded to the scene to assist the victim.
These events highlight the persistent challenges of violent crime,  gang-related activity,  and public safety issues in many Cape Flats communities and nearby areas like Mamre.  Authorities have not yet released official statements linking the incidents or providing updates on arrests, motives, or victim conditions.
Residents in affected neighbourhoods are urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and contact emergency services (10111 for police, 10177 for medical) if needed.

CCN will continue to follow developments as more information becomes available from SAPS and local authorities.
