Police Clamp Down on Suspected Drug Dealer in Komaggas

Komaggas:-  In a continued crackdown on drug-related crime, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Namakwa District has struck another blow against the illegal drug trade under #OperationShanela2.On Friday, 3 July 2026, members of the Namakwa District Task Team, supported by Namakwa Detectives and the Springbok K9 Unit, conducted a targeted search-and-seizure operation at a residence in Rugby Street, Komaggas.

Upon securing the premises and informing the occupant of the purpose of the search, officers discovered and seized quantities of mandrax tablets and tik (crystal methamphetamine), believed to have been intended for distribution in the area. Police also confiscated an undisclosed amount of cash suspected to be proceeds from illicit drug dealing.

A male suspect was arrested on the scene and is expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of and dealing in drugs.

District Commissioner of Namakwa, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, praised the swift and professional conduct of the operation.

“We commend our members for their commitment and dedication in disrupting the illegal drug trade,” said Brigadier Andrews.  “We urge community members to remain vigilant and to continue working in partnership with SAPS by reporting any criminal activities. Together, we can eradicate the scourge of drugs from our communities.”

The operation forms part of the broader #OperationShanela2 initiative aimed at intensifying intelligence-driven policing to combat serious and violent crimes, including drug dealing.

SAPS has reiterated its call for public cooperation in the fight against drugs and related crimes.
