R1.3m Drug Bust in George and Robbery Suspect Nabbed in Kuils River

Western Cape police delivered two significant blows against crime on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, seizing drugs worth an estimated R1.3 million in George and arresting a suspect linked to a business robbery in Kalkfontein.
In Lawaaikamp (Conville), George, members of the Conville Crime Prevention Unit, working with Outeniqua K9 officers, acted on information and executed a search warrant at a residence in Potsolo Notyeke Crescent at about 15:00.
Inside a box marked with a courier company logo, police found packets of mandrax tablets. They also searched a non-working chest freezer on the property and discovered more plastic bags filled with the tablets. In total, 26 000 mandrax tablets were confiscated. A 42-year-old man was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
He remains in custody and is expected to appear in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 7 August 2026.
Meanwhile in Kalkfontein, Kuils River Crime Prevention Unit members were on patrol when they received a complaint of a robbery in progress in Brenda Street. On arrival, they spotted a white Toyota Quantum and a white Kia Picanto fleeing the scene. One suspect was left behind and tried to run away on foot.
Officers apprehended the 24-year-old man. A search revealed a 9mm pistol without a serial number and three rounds of ammunition. He was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
Once charged, the suspect will appear in the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court. The search for the remaining suspects continues. Both operations highlight ongoing efforts by police to remove illegal firearms and drugs from Western Cape communities.
