The Cape Town Pride Festival is culminating this Saturday, March 1, 2025, with the vibrant Pride Parade and Mardi Gras.
The parade is set to commence at 11:00 AM from Alfred Street in De Waterkant, proceeding towards the Green Point Track, where the Mardi Gras festivities will unfold from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Due to the parade, several road closures will be in effect between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, impacting Routes 108, 109, and 118. Consequently, the Upper Portswood, Gallows Hill, and Alfred stops for buses heading toward the city center will be temporarily skipped. Commuters are advised to use the Wigtown or Riebeek stops during this period.
The Mardi Gras at Green Point Track promises a lively atmosphere with a variety of stalls offering LGBTQIA+ merchandise, diverse food options, bars, and refreshment stations. Attendees can look forward to live performances from some of the country’s top artists and drag acts on the main stage. A VIP area is also available, providing complimentary drinks, canapés, and exclusive meet-and-greet opportunities with performers.
For those planning to attend, early bird tickets are available until January 15, 2025, at R50, with general tickets priced at R65 thereafter. VIP tickets are priced at R550. Given the expected high turnout, it’s recommended to secure tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
In a message to the community, Cape Town Pride CEO Tommy Patterson emphasized the festival’s theme, “RainbowID,” highlighting the inclusivity and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. He also announced that Cape Town has been selected to host World Pride in 2028, marking a significant milestone for the city’s LGBTQIA+ community.
As the city prepares to celebrate, attendees are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly, considering the temporary road closures, and to embrace the spirit of unity and pride that defines this annual event.
