Brackenfell: – Western Cape police are investigating a brazen cash-in-transit heist that took place outside Liquor City on Old Paarl Road shortly before midday on today.
At approximately 11:40, five armed robbers ambushed a Fidelity Security cash collection team as guards were servicing the liquor outlet. The suspects, travelling in two getaway vehicles, overpowered the guards, disarmed one of them, and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash together with the security officer’s service firearm.
Brackenfell SAPS Station Commander, Colonel Jakobus Marthinus, confirmed the incident and said no shots were fired and no injuries were sustained. “No one was injured during the robbery. The suspects fled the scene in two vehicles and police are actively following all available leads,” Col. Marthinus said.
The heist has once again highlighted the ongoing threat to cash-in-transit operations in the Western Cape. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or Brackenfell SAPS directly.
