Stand United for Justice for Shanice Rudolph – Oppose Bail Application Today
CCN News Team
LAVENDER HILL:- Cape Town communities are rallying together this morning with an urgent call to action, as the alleged perpetrator in the tragic murder of Shanice Chante Rudolph appears in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing.
The 23-year-old from Lavender Hill, who was four months pregnant with her first child, was brutally killed in December 2025. Her decomposing body was discovered buried in a shallow grave at Klip Road Cemetery in Grassy Park, sending shockwaves through the Western Cape and highlighting the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence (GBV) in South Africa.
Community Mobilisation: Oppose Bail and Demand Justice
Activists, family supporters, and concerned citizens are urged to gather at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 21 January 2026, from 09:00 to show solidarity with Shanice’s family and send a clear message: GBV will not be tolerated, and alleged perpetrators must face full consequences.
The State has previously indicated strong opposition to bail, and today’s hearing is a critical moment in the fight for justice. Community presence in court will honour Shanice’s memory, support her grieving family, and amplify the call for systemic change to protect women and end the culture of impunity surrounding GBV.
Recap of the Case
Shanice, affectionately known as “Niecey”, was last seen alive on 4 December 2025 in Ouboet Street, Cafda, Retreat. She had been in a relationship for about six months and was excited about becoming a mother.
Her disappearance sparked an intense search, ending in heartbreak when her body was found on 9 December 2025. Police arrested her 42-year-old boyfriend, Ashwin Davids, the alleged father of her unborn child, shortly afterwards. A second suspect was later linked to the case.
In December court appearances, the State opposed bail, and the matter was postponed to today for further proceedings. Shanice was finally laid to rest last week after a five-week wait for DNA confirmation, bringing some closure to her family but no end to their demand for accountability.
Why Your Presence Matters
Every voice and every body in court today strengthens the message that the loss of Shanice – and countless other women to GBV, cannot be in vain. This is more than one case; it’s a stand against the epidemic claiming lives across our communities.
