CCN Reporting

CAPE TOWN:- The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Director has temporarily shut off water supply to several areas in the northern suburbs to address a leaking watermain.

This announcement affecting residents and facilities around Melkbosstrand.
The disruption, announced on Tuesday, 24 February 2026 at 16:30, impacts Koeberg Power Station, Atlantic Beach Golf Estate, parts of Melkbosstrand, Duynefontein, and Melkbosstrand Village.
According to the City, the shutdown is necessary to urgently attend to the leak. While an alternate supply route has been activated, water pressure in the affected areas is currently lower than normal. Maintenance teams are on site assessing the damage before starting repairs.
Residents in these areas can expect reduced water pressure throughout the repair period. The City has urged all affected households and businesses to conserve water and reduce consumption until full supply and normal pressure are restored.

The City apologised for the inconvenience and assured that crews are working diligently to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

This comes amid ongoing pressures on Cape Town’s water system in early 2026, with various planned and unplanned maintenance activities across the metro to maintain infrastructure reliability.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official City channels for any further developments or restoration times.
