As Cape Flats Violence Continues Unabated
CCN Reporter – George April
Delft:- In yet another tragic chapter of gun violence on the Cape Flats, a 31-year-old man was shot dead and another seriously wounded during an early-morning shooting in Leiden this Tuesday morning.
Emergency services and police arrived at the corner of Orange and Hindle Road around 6am following reports of gunfire. Paramedics could only certify the 31-year-old victim dead at the scene after he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. His companion, hit in the chest and right arm, was stabilized and transported to a nearby medical facility.
Delft police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder. The investigation has since been handed over to the Provincial Serious Violent Crime unit.
While the motive is still under investigation, the incident mirrors a disturbing pattern of targeted shootings that continue to terrorise Delft and surrounding areas. Recent weeks have seen multiple fatal attacks in the broader Cape Flats, including mass shootings in Bishop Lavis that claimed several lives and left others fighting for survival in hospital.
Community leaders and residents have repeatedly called for intensified police visibility and interventions to stem the tide of gang-related and retaliatory violence that has claimed hundreds of lives in the region over the past year alone.
