During incident on Jakes Gerwel Drive

CCN Reporting!

Cape Town:-  A serious smash-and-grab incident occurred on Wednesday evening along Jakes Gerwel Drive near Langa.

One of the suspected criminals was reportedly shot and killed.
According to initial reports, a motorist was targeted by smash-and-grab suspects at the scene. During the confrontation, one of the attackers sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead.

Full details surrounding the shooting, including who fired the shots, remain unclear at this stage. Police have not yet released an official statement.

The stretch of Jakes Gerwel Drive, which links areas such as Dunoon, Langa, and Samora Machel, has become a notorious hotspot for smash-and-grab syndicates. Criminals frequently target motorists stopped at traffic lights, often operating in groups and striking quickly.
Bonteheuwel ward councillor Angus McKenzie previously highlighted the route as a persistent problem area for these opportunistic crimes.

Motorists are strongly urged to remain vigilant when travelling along this road, especially during peak hours or when stopped at intersections. Avoid leaving valuables visible and consider alternative routes where possible.

CCN will provide further updates as more information becomes available from the South African Police Service (SAPS).
