Police are investigating multiple murders after at least 11 people were shot dead in separate attacks across the Western Cape since Sunday night (26–27 July 2026)

Gugulethu:- Two armed men forced entry by kicking open a front door, demanded a firearm, and opened fire.
Four men and one woman (aged 19–23) were killed at the scene; a 20-year-old woman was wounded and hospitalised. No arrests; motive unknown.
Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit detectives are handling the case. Acting Provincial Commissioner Maj-Gen Luyanda Damoyi condemned the attack, and extra officers were deployed.
– Related incidents included four men killed in Kayamandi (Stellenbosch) on Sunday evening and two men killed (plus an elderly woman wounded) in Manenberg.

Arrest in political murder (DA candidate Sinovuyo Dyokwe)
A 37-year-old man described as the alleged mastermind behind the June 2026 murder of DA ward councillor candidate Sinovuyo Miranda Dyokwe was arrested on 25 July in Parklands during a joint SVCI + Special Task Force operation. He appeared in Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on 27 July on charges of (premeditated) murder and extortion; the case was postponed (to early August) for a medical assessment after claims he was assaulted in custody, plus bail information and a media application.
Police say Dyokwe (shot dead on 20 June while returning home from voter registration in Dunoon) had been targeted after allegedly refusing to continue paying extortion/protection money. A vehicle and seven cellphones were seized; further arrests are expected. The two alleged shooters remain at large.
