AS HAWKS ARREST SUSPECT
CAPE TOWN:- In a significant victory against human trafficking, a multi-disciplinary intelligence operation has led to the arrest of a 34-year-old suspect linked to a sex trafficking ring operating in Cape Town.
The operation, carried out on 12 March 2025, involved the Hawks’ Bellville and George divisions, the National Intervention Unit, and the Tactical Response Team.
The case first came to light in September 2024, when the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) in the Western Cape, supported by Home Affairs officials, raided a property in Plumstead. Inside, authorities discovered twelve occupants, including five women identified as sex workers. Investigators also uncovered a chilling reality—one of the individuals was a minor, a confirmed victim of human trafficking. She was immediately placed under the care of the Department of Social Development.
Further investigations identified two suspected traffickers linked to the brothel, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants. After months of tracking, law enforcement apprehended one of the suspects last week, with authorities confirming that more arrests are imminent.
The arrested suspect appeared before the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on 14 March 2025, facing charges related to human trafficking.
This case highlights the ongoing battle against human exploitation and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and social services in dismantling trafficking networks. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to human trafficking.
