These are the stories of pain beneath the speeches, of women who didn’t get the protection they were promised.
Jefftaline “Koekoes” April – A Life Lost After Police Contact
It began on Sunday, 28 April in Middelpos, Saldanha. Witnesses allege that during a police raid, officers forced drugs into Jefftaline April’s mouth. She collapsed shortly after, but didn’t die that day. For more than a week, she fought for her life. Then she died, quietly, without answers. Her family grieves in confusion and the police remain silent.

Jackeline Hector – A Court Case, A Silenced Worker
Jackeline Hector’s battle for dignity began in 2018, working alongside DA councillor Amelia Job, the deputy mayor of Matzikama. On Tuesday, 6 May, Hector appeared in court for the second time over workplace injustices. After that, she went public in a Facebook live video on “Time To Talk”, a bold move that nearly cost her job. Her employer, the Matzikama Municipality, allegedly tried to suspend her, but union SAMWU pushed back, threatening a strike. Their question was simple – if Hector is punished, why not the councillor?
Since her court appearance, Hector has remained silent. But her silence is not peace, it is pressure. This information was obtained confidentially through media contacts.
Hopefield’s Ongoing Horror – From Assault to Racist Abuse
A Hopefield woman recently haiked, yes, haiked all the way to Vredenburg Police Station after suffering her second traumatic experience at the hands of local police officers. She claimed she was thrown into the back of a police van and locked in a cell overnight, allegedly by the same officer who had previously bruised her arm.
She claims that every encounter with this officer comes with a barrage of humiliating and degrading insults. During her visit to Vredenburg to file a complaint, she says a officer visibly cringed, as she was called racist words, and yet, she was simply told to “come back another time.”
What kind of justice system tells a bruised woman to try again later?
Another Woman – Another Assault Another Silence
In Hopefield, another woman sits with a broken angle an attempted toe, and a broken spirit, after allegedly assaulted by a police officer. According to confidential reports her trauma started in the local police station. She was allegedly assaulted a month ago by a female law enforcement officer.
We’ve been ask to withhold further details, because her case has not yet been in court.
Is This the Price Tag of Being a Woman in South Africa?
This Women’s Day, while politicians post pictures and hand out roses, these stories remain unresolved – hidden behind bureaucracy, fear, and power games.
If a woman haiked miles to report abuse and no one listens, is the police force untouchable?
Mr. President, leaders, officials – We are not asking for sympathy – We are demanding accountability
What kind of justice system tells a bruised woman to try again later.
The question is no longer why this keeps happening, the question is – who will stop it?
Because South African women are not safe.
And the silence is a betrayal.
